Healthy Homes

Model house with scarf and hat - Healthy Homes

The Healthy Homes team supports people in Frome to live in homes that are healthier, more comfortable, more energy efficient and more affordable to run. Interested in finding out more? Contact the Healthy Homes team on 01373 465757 or via email.

With just a few simple changes, most homes can be adapted to stay cooler during hot weather, warmer during colder months, and drier throughout the year — helping households save money, cut carbon, improve health and feel more comfortable in every season.

Homes that are too cold, too hot, damp, or energy inefficient can have a serious impact on both physical and mental health. Poor housing conditions are linked to respiratory illnesses, cardiovascular problems, poor sleep, stress, and reduced wellbeing. Homes that lose heat through draughts, poor insulation, inefficient heating systems, windows, walls and roofs can also lead to unnecessarily high energy bills and increased carbon emissions, while homes that overheat in summer can become uncomfortable and difficult to manage for older residents, young children and people with existing health conditions.

Whether you have questions about lowering your energy bills or dealing with energy debt, reducing damp and mould, or need support with retrofit (home energy) upgrades such as draughtproofing, insulation, ventilation, solar panels or low-carbon heating system, support is available through Healthy Homes. Including:

  • Energy advice via phone or email as well as drop-in events with our trained Energy Champions
  • Home visits from Energy Champions, who can provide advice and practical support including contacting energy suppliers, helping residents to use heating controls effectively, or helping to install FREE draught proofing, radiator panels and hot water tank covers (funded by Frome Renewable Energy Community FRECo)
  • Advice and support for individuals and businesses in accessing grants, funding schemes and low-interest loans for energy efficiency improvements
  • Advice for homeowners, tenants, social tenants, landlords and community buildings
  • Provide talks or training for your community organisation on fuel poverty and energy efficiency
