We believe choosing to spend your time in a playful way is essential for everyone’s health and wellbeing, no matter what your age. In fact, we think it’s time we all took play a bit more seriously!
Frome is already full of fantastic play opportunities and a variety of green spaces such as the Old Showfield, Rodden Meadow, the tennis courts, skate parks, running tracks, outdoor gym and many play areas. But we want to challenge and encourage people to think about play differently.

In March 2025, Bristol Children’s Scrapstore reviewed the work of the council in regards to the initial ambitions and recommendations of the strategy and presented their findings to the Council Oversight Committee.
Areas of development in parks and open spaces, as well as incidental play opportunities were celebrated, along with the Council’s collaborations with organisations such as Super Roots and Terrestrial, and the continued work of the Rangers to manage the outdoor community spaces.

Amongst other things, the review recommended writing this article for Play England, and co-creating more spaces for young people to hang out. The council intend to start this process with the commissioning of a co-design project for the Mary Baily Playing Field.
The Council will use the strategy and the review to further embed play opportunities in spaces and places that have been taken on by Frome Town Council from Somerset Council.
