Project Researcher

Are you an experienced researcher with a flair for problem solving and data gathering?

Frome Town Council is forward thinking and ambitious. Our vision is of a town that is environmentally sustainable, inclusive and prosperous, with a community that is resilient, happy, and able to shape its own future.

Over the coming year, we are working together to help shape the next Council Strategy. This will be based on robust evidence of what the town and our local community networks want and need. As well as a broad programme of community engagement, we will be looking at the picture that data can show us about various aspects of what it means to thrive here and be socially and ecologically resilient. We have looked at models such as Doughnut Economics to help us shape the framework on which to base this engagement. This work will be the basis of a monitoring and evaluation plan for the new strategy.

We are looking to commission a freelance contractor to undertake a brief but wide-ranging research project to support this work and report the findings.

We anticipate this piece of work taking 2 to 3 months and to be ideally complete by the end of July 2024. This could suit a research student or someone with expertise to co-ordinate the project and organise their own researchers.

The main tasks of the project will be to:

  • Together with the FTC Officers, review and refine a framework of social and ecological targets and indicators for the town.
  • Review available secondary data sources and adapt to context e.g. county to town level.
  • Identify data collection requirements and gather where appropriate or feasible within the capacity of the project’s timescale and resources.
  • Work with partners and institutions to collate secondary data.
  • Present findings in an accessible report.

This work will help shape the future of Frome. You will work closely with the Communities Team and Resilience Team at the Town Council and will be supported to liaise with other organisations as needed.

To make an application to deliver this project, please send a brief, costed proposal, to a maximum of £6k, to Hannah Stopford at hstopford@frometowncouncil.gov.uk, by 9am on 15th April.

For more information or any questions please contact Hannah directly.

Volunteer as an Energy Advice Champion for Frome

If you can commit a few hours a week or month and would like to make a difference to people’s lives, reducing their energy bills and lowering their carbon footprint, we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for Energy Advice Champions to work with us to support our expanding Healthy Homes project delivered in partnership with Frome Medical Practice and the Centre of Sustainable Energy.

You will be a part of a friendly and supportive team, providing energy advice to groups and individuals with initiatives such as our regular drop in energy sessions, planned pop up events, and home visits (for those that need an additional support such as help with setting heating controls and draft proofing). We need support especially during the daytime, and in some evenings, so everyone is very welcome.

Full training will be provided by the Centre of Sustainable Energy, and hours of volunteering can be flexible. For those that are interested, there will also be a free opportunity to complete a City & Guilds Level 3 in Energy Awareness.

If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Caroline Wajsblum: cwajsblum@frometowncouncil.gov.uk or 07597 700837
