Mayor’s column 15 February

A couple of weekends back the Cheese and Grain hosted the first vegan fair in Frome. A chilly Sunday, surely it would be a quiet affair. No chance, they were queuing as far as the bridge to the precinct and out side, in the sunshine, people enjoyed the C&G catering… the sun was really warm!

All of a sudden spring seems to have burst into life. I noticed crocuses and snowdrops on the sunny bank on Bath St and catkins on the hazel and willow bushes. Every spring catkins seem to appear fully formed, it must be that I’m not looking for weeks then the sun comes out and I get out and there they are.

If spring is on it’s way then the prospect of the Independent market starting up again is on the horizon and the promise of more things happening outdoors.

Events like Frome Busks will be out on the streets of Frome this year. This event will be highlighting not only the retail regions of our town but also some fantastic street acts. It’s a competition for performers under 25 years. Those wanting to take part in the competition need to sign up by next Tuesday 20th February so get your skates on. It will be well worth being brave and having a go at busking, the prizes for winners are fantastic. Each act will be assessed by a panel of judges and the winner will be awarded with the chance to perform at 23 Bath Street and Sunrise Festival later this year.

I’d be surprised if under 25 year olds will be reading this Mayors piece so point your nearest and dearest to the Frome Town Council website for all the information and get ready for a great day!
