As part of the support, advice and guidance that we offer community organisations Frome Town Council have created a bespoke training programme for volunteers, trustees and paid staff working in community organisations, charities and social enterprises in Frome. All sessions will be held at Frome Town Hall

Paediatric First Aid

12 July 2018 9am – 4.30pm

This two-day paediatric first aid course focuses on emergency scenarios that face those looking after young children and infants, including day nurseries, private nursery schools, pre-schools, before and after school clubs for children in the early years age group, childminders and carers of children at home. The paediatric first aid course meets the Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register requirements. Tickets cost £40 (both days) and can be booked here.

Setting up an organisation

5 October 2017 7pm – 8.30pm

At some point every group needs to have an organisational structure, and there are a lot of issues and legalities to consider. This workshop will assist you to understand which structure is right for your group.

Get to grips with Data Protection

12 October 2017 6pm – 8.30pm

A practical basic awareness session on managing Data Protection and Security in your organisation. It outlines how the principles work in practice from obtaining information about people to its secure destruction, including the laws on using it for marketing and fundraising purposes, and passing it on to other people and organisations. An update on preparing for the new General Data Protection Regulation in readiness for its implementation in May 2018 is included.

Business Plans

2 November 2017 7pm – 8.30pm

“Why do we need a business plan, when we’re not a business?” This workshop will help you understand the role of a business plan, and support you to develop one that works for your group.

Emergency First Aid at Work

18 January 2017 9am – 4.30pm

This one-day course will help you meet your regulatory requirements if your risk assessment indicates that first aid training covering emergency protocols only, is sufficient for your workplace. This course is designed for people who want to receive training in emergency first aid and is especially suited for nominated first aiders in smaller, low risk working environments.

Budget Planning

1 February 2018 7pm – 8.30pm

Budget planning is important for groups, but is sometimes hard to get to grips with if you’re not a financial expert. We will look at what you need to know in order to create a realistic and practical budget.

How to deal with Tricky Customers

Community Engagement Workshop

12th April 2018 5.30pm – 6.30pm

This interactive workshop is by Chris Chinnock who has over 17 years experience in Social Enterprise and grass roots Community Development.

A skilled and experienced Trainer, Facilitator and Public Speaker – Chris is from Nurture Development who specialises in cultivating partnerships to support inclusive Community driven change, at a local level.

This workshop will give participants a chance to explore engagement tools and methods for increasing local participation, with ideas to take away.

To fundraise successfully, you need a compelling Case for Support – a document that you can draw on for all your funding applications. We will look at what this needs to include, and provide top tips so that you can create your own.

Governance for Trustees

10 and 11 May 2018 6pm – 9pm

This will be an interactive course and there will be ample opportunity for questions throughout. We shall start by considering what is governance and then cover the key roles and legal responsibilities of charity trustees and committee members before looking at some practical governance issues.
