As part of the support, advice and guidance that we offer community organisations Frome Town Council have created a bespoke training programme for volunteers, trustees and paid staff working in community organisations, charities and social enterprises in Frome. All sessions will be held at Frome Town Hall.

Training Schedule

Emergency First Aid at Work

Thursday 18 October 2018, 9am – 5pm
£30 per person, book here
*maximum 12 people

This one-day course will help you meet your regulatory requirements if your risk assessment indicates that first aid training covering emergency protocols only, is sufficient for your workplace. This course is designed for people who want to receive training in emergency first aid and is especially suited for nominated first aiders in smaller, low risk working environments.

Case for Support

Thursday 22 November 2018, 10am – noon

To fundraise successfully, you need a compelling Case for Support – a document that you can draw on for all your funding applications. We will look at what this needs to include, and provide top tips so that you can create your own.

Risk Assessments and Manual Handling

Employers and the self employed have a legal duty to assess health and safety risks. Anyone carrying out risk and manual handling assessments need to have the necessary knowledge and skills. The Risk Assessment session ensures that supervisors and managers have the necessary depth of understanding to enable them to carry out risk assessments. The Manual Handling session introduces candidates to the hazards and risks involved in manual handling and outlines what to expect from a manual handling assessment. It will enable employees to develop safer manual handling techniques in the workplace.

Food Safety

Wherever food is served, it is important to demonstrate the highest standards of preparation, handling, storage and serving. This course reinforces the importance of food safety and provides learners with an understanding of how to identify and control food safety hazards in their own workplace. Upon completion of this training, you will be able to prepare and cook food that is safe for consumption.

Governance for Trustees

This two session course is an introduction to the roles and responsibilities of charity trustees and what this means in practice. It is suitable for both new and more experienced trustees of organisations of all sizes, with ample time to answer your questions.

Get to grips with Data Protection

12 October 2017 6pm – 8.30pm

A practical basic awareness session on managing Data Protection and Security in your organisation. It outlines how the principles work in practice from obtaining information about people to its secure destruction, including the laws on using it for marketing and fundraising purposes, and passing it on to other people and organisations. An update on preparing for the new General Data Protection Regulation in readiness for its implementation in May 2018 is included.

Business Plans

2 November 2017 7pm – 8.30pm

“Why do we need a business plan, when we’re not a business?” This workshop will help you understand the role of a business plan, and support you to develop one that works for your group.

Budget planning is important for groups, but is sometimes hard to get to grips with if you’re not a financial expert. We will look at what you need to know in order to create a realistic and practical budget.

Paediatric First Aid

12 July 2018 9am – 4.30pm

This two-day paediatric first aid course focuses on emergency scenarios that face those looking after young children and infants, including day nurseries, private nursery schools, pre-schools, before and after school clubs for children in the early years age group, childminders and carers of children at home. The paediatric first aid course meets the Ofsted Early Years and Childcare Register requirements. Tickets cost £40 (both days).
