Toilet refurbishment project invites applicants

Victoria Park toilets

Victoria Park is Frome’s oldest park and one of the most popular, well-loved and well-used spaces in the town. The public toilets within the park are in need of some long-awaited improvements and Frome Town Council (FTC) is happy to confirm that they are inviting businesses to submit their applications to bid for the project.

Originally the public had voted to replace the toilets in Victoria Park but a number of considerations, not least cost, has meant the decision has been made to refurbish the existing block. The refurbishment will bring the toilets in line with best practice in terms of public toilet design and functionality, it will make them more welcoming and accessible and reduce the risk of vandalism. The toilets will also include a Changing Places unit which are facilities with equipment for people with limited mobility.

Cllr Mark Dorrington said: “As the park is regularly used by families, children as well as dog walkers, it’s great to be able get the refurbishment process underway. Over the years the toilets at Victoria Park have deteriorated, whether due to age or spates of vandalism, and despite the best efforts of the Rangers and cleaning staff of Frome Town Council, the toilets are in need of a refresh. It’s time to rethink how this facility is used to ensure users of the park have access and to reinvent this space to try and avoid any future antisocial behaviour in the process.”

FTC are inviting companies to tender for the project and those interested are required to submit a proposed design and timescales, examples of previous work, a breakdown of costs plus more – all details  can be found on the Contracts and Tenders page on FTC’s website.

The deadline for receipt of tenders is midday on Wednesday 31st August with the appointment for the contract in September. Following the design stage and appropriate planning consent, the refurbishment work will start next year. Please contact Vivienne Whitaker, Project Officer at Frome Town Council if you have any questions about the tender process : 01373 475571 or please email here.
