Frome is one of thousands of communities to screen a new film, The People’s Emergency Briefing, at the Cheese and Grain on Thursday 21 May at 7pm.
The screening forms part of a growing UK-wide programme of events designed to help ensure that both the public and decision-makers are clearly and honestly informed about the climate and nature crisis – and what it may mean for communities across the country.
In November 2025, more than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media gathered at Westminster Central Hall for the National Emergency Briefing – a landmark event bringing together leading experts to assess the UK’s exposure to climate and nature risks.
This national event has now been adapted into a 50-minute public film, The People’s Emergency Briefing, which launched nationwide on 7th April and is now being screened in communities across the UK. Among others, the film features broadcaster and campaigner Chris Packham, part of the National Emergency Briefing team, and Dragon’s Den’s Deborah Meaden (pictured), who attended and was inspired by the event.
Lt General Richard Nugee CB CVO CBE, former Chief of Staff at NATO addressed the audience at the November briefing:
“Britain has faced severe challenges before and we prevailed. We prevailed because we had leaders, political leaders, civil leaders and military leaders with the courage to look the threat in the eye and act against a possible outcome they could not predict or guarantee…But there is also a good opportunity. If we do treat this as the security challenge it is, the solutions make us stronger. We end up with more secure energy, more resilient infrastructure and a safer, more stable society.”
Leader and Chair of FTC Fiona Barrows said ““The climate and nature crisis are no longer distant issues – communities are already feeling the impacts, and the decisions we make now will shape the future for decades to come. FTC has worked with partners across Frome to bring The People’s Emergency Briefing to our town because we believe people need clear, honest information and a space to come together around solutions. We all have a role to play, and this is an opportunity to turn concern into meaningful action.”
With screenings taking place nationwide, local events form part of a broader effort to build a shared understanding of climate and nature risks across the UK, and to support constructive public dialogue about future choices.
Tickets for the screening are free, with a suggested donation of £3 towards climate action in Frome – book tickets at tinyurl.com/emergency-briefing-frome.
