As households begin looking ahead to the colder months, Frome residents are being offered free personalised Home Energy Plans to help make their homes warmer, healthier and cheaper to run.
The plans, available through Frome Town Council’s Healthy Homes programme, are delivered in partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE), an independent national charity. Residents who take part will also be able to access ongoing support from the council’s Healthy Homes Energy Champions.
The service is designed to help people understand how their homes perform and identify improvements that could reduce energy use, lower bills and create a more comfortable living environment.
Caroline Wajsblum, Healthy Homes Coordinator at Frome Town Council, said: “If you are thinking about making improvements to your home, concerned about energy bills, experiencing problems with cold, damp or overheating, or simply want to understand how your home could perform better, you can sign up for a free Home Energy Plan.
“The plans give you the opportunity to step back and look at your home as a whole, helping you understand which improvements could make the biggest difference for your pocket as well as the planet.”
A Home Energy Plan takes a whole-house approach, considering factors such as insulation, heating systems, ventilation, windows, doors and the overall condition of the property. Following a visit from a qualified retrofit assessor, homeowners receive a personalised report outlining potential improvements and suggestions for where to start.
The plans can help residents tackle common issues including cold rooms, damp, condensation, mould and overheating, while also identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
The service may be particularly useful for people who have recently moved house, are planning renovations, want to lower their energy bills or are looking to make their homes more resilient to both colder winters and hotter summers.
The scheme is available to homeowners and private landlords in Frome and surrounding villages whose properties were built in or before 2003. There is no obligation to carry out any of the recommended work.
