Pop-up shop showcases achievements of Green and Healthy Frome

A pop-up exhibition and ‘Imaginarium’ at 23 Cheap Street from 24 to 28 March, curated by artist and cultural programmer Kate Keara Pelen and illustrated by local artist Jenna Herman traces the roots of sustainability in our town – while dreaming of what a greener, healthier Frome might look in 2030 and even 2050. The exhibition showcases five years of Green and Healthy Frome as its funding draws to a close. This lottery-funded partnership between Edventure, Frome Medical Practice and Frome Town Council has focused on the health and wellbeing of both people and planet believing that if we improve the health of one, we can improve the other. Green and Healthy Frome projects include Healthy Homes and Solar and Beyond – helping people to feel warm and comfortable in their homes as well as supporting people to switch to renewable energy; Plastic Free. Period, supporting people to switch to plastic free and reusable period products; Cycle Together – which supports people to cycle more and drive less; and reduce/reuse/recycle initiatives Donate IT, Everyone Needs Pockets and Future Shed – and much more.

Visitors can view information about the groups and projects addressing Frome’s wellbeing, ecology and economy, meet members of Frome Town Council’s Resilience team and explore photographs, artefacts & archives from the Green and Healthy Frome project. There are free drop-in workshops with Frome Families for Future (Friday 10am to 1pm) and Everyone Needs Pockets (Saturday 10am to 3pm). Also on display is Plastic Bones – a colossal artwork made from scrap plastic materials by Frome Youth Climate Action Group and artist Julie Starks.

Mayor of Frome Anita Collier said “We’re saying goodbye to Green and Healthy Frome, but so much of its great work is here to stay, thanks to Frome’s amazing community organisations, and everything it has given us during five years of collaboration – with our project partners at Edventure and Frome Medical Practice, with community groups, with residents and most importantly with our young people, who have the most to gain from a greener future. For our part at the town council, we’re maintaining the warm homes, green energy retrofit and energy advice services that residents have found so valuable, and making them part of our permanent offer.”

The Imaginarium is at 23 Cheap Street and open between 10am and 5pm from Tuesday 24 March to Saturday 28 March. In addition to the week-long exhibition, there are free workshops on Friday 27 March with Frome Families for the Future from 10am to 1pm and a mending workshop with Everyone Needs Pockets on Saturday 28 March between 10am and 2pm, where people are welcome to bring mending projects, learn mending skills and find out more about the group.
