Retrofit Somerset

Energy efficiency colours with house drawing

Retrofit Somerset is a partnership between Somerset Climate Action Network, Somerset Council, Frome, Bruton and Glastonbury Town Councils, Somerset Independence Plus and the Centre for Sustainable Energy.

After a successful six-month pilot project funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund, Retrofit Somerset has secured further funding to explore the creation of an organisation to support community retrofit across Somerset.

What is retrofit?

Retrofit is the process of making changes to an existing building to reduce energy consumption and emissions. Retrofit should also bring the benefit of a more comfortable and healthier home. Examples of retrofit measures include the installation loft or wall insulation, double or triple glazing.

The Somerset Green Directory

As part of the Somerset Retrofit project, this directory has been put together to help you find local businesses and services to help you with your eco retrofit project.

Events

The Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) ran free webinars aimed at people thinking of taking on a domestic retrofit project but not sure where to start.

Each 90-minute webinar focussed on a different type of home, so attendees can find the one that suits them best. And they feature home owners who share stories of their retrofits.

Experts from the Futureproof programme were also on hand to answer questions.

Future events will be listed here.

First hand advice

Local residents have been telling their retrofit stories in a series of Youtube videos, and include first hand experience on everything from insulation to heat pumps.

If you’d like to find out more about the retrofit project please contact our Resilience Manager Nikki Brain or visit the Future Proof website.
