Town Council elections are held every four years. The next town council and district council elections will be taking place on Thursday 2 May 2019.

The elections for town council are organised by Mendip District Council. The elections section of their website is http://www.mendip.gov.uk/mendipelections . The Electoral Commission regulates and provides guidance over the whole of the UK. Their website is https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/. Click here to see the official notices of election.

Frome Town Council covers roughly the built-up area of Frome town. It is surrounded by Selwood parish and Berkley parish Councils. There are other parishes like Nunney and Beckington nearby. The town is divided into 8 wards and depending on the size, each ward is represented by one or more Town Councillor. There are 17 Town Councillors in total. For example, if you live in College Ward, you can vote for three candidates in the town election and two candidates in the district election.

Click here to find the ward boundaries in Frome Parish. You can zoom in to your street on the pdf file and see what ward you are in.

The table below lists the wards, the number of councillors who will represent those wards and a list of nominated candidates and their parties. Further details can be found here via Mendip District Council.

How to register to vote

You need to register at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote in order to vote. It’s easy and takes a few minutes. You’ll need your national insurance number, your name, address and your date of birth. If you’re stuck, pop into the Town Hall with details and we’ll help you.

You need to be at least 18 years old to be eligible to vote and be any of the following:

  • All British, Commonwealth, Irish and other European Union citizens.
  • Members of HM Forces and their spouses
  • Crown Servants employed outside the United Kingdom
  • European Citizens (but only in European and Local Elections).
  • Overseas Electors (but only in Parliamentary and European Elections).

Postal Voting and Proxy Voting

If you are unable to attend a polling station during election time or would rather vote by proxy or by post, you can apply to do so by clicking on Mendip District Council’s website here voting by post or here voting by proxy.

You’ll need your date of birth and address handy and the name of your proxy voter.

You must already be on the electoral role. Applications to vote by post close at 5pm on Monday 15th April.

On election day – 2 May

You can vote for both district and town council candidates on the same day at the same polling station. You’ll be sent a polling card in advance of the election and you need to take this along to the polling station in your ward. You will receive two separate polling cards: one for each election. Depending on which ward in the town you live in, you’ll either have one, two or three votes.

It will say on your polling card which one you need to attend for your ward. Alternatively, you can use the list below.
