Frome College is reaching out to local businesses to help give Year 10 and 12 students a taste of working life via work experience placements in the community. The college has reviewed and adjusted its placement requirements, to make it easier for more local businesses and employers to get involved.
Placements for Year 10 students run from 19 to 23 January 2026. Year 12 students can take part in work experience more flexibly, at many points in the year.
Frome College’s Charlotte Gale explained:
“Our Year 10 and 12 students are keen to explore the world of work and we need support from local businesses. We understand that office hours are different to a school day, so here are a couple of ways placements could be more flexible to fit with your business.
- Students could work in a hybrid model – for instance splitting their placement between working from home and in the office.
- Students can work a range of times – it doesn’t necessarily have to fit into school hours.
Town councillor Andy Jones said
“Work experience placements are brilliant for widening young people’s horizons, learning what life is like beyond the classroom and getting inspiration for possible future careers. The world of work has changed a lot, particularly since the pandemic and Frome College’s fresh approach to placements will give young people a realistic taste of the working world in 2026 and make it easier for many more businesses to offer a placement. Local employers can give back and share skills and young people can contribute their fresh ideas, energy, and digital skills — it’s a win-win for everyone.”
