Fire at Edmund Park 3 December – how to get help

Frome Town Council and Fair Frome are coordinating an initial response to last night’s fire at a block of flats at Edmund Park. Conversations are ongoing with Selwood Housing, who own the building.

In the first instance, anyone affected by the fire who needs essential supplies should call Frome Town Hall on 01373 465757 or info@frometowncouncil.gov.uk, or pop into the front desk. We’ll take your details and a list of what you need and a Fair Frome volunteer will deliver to you. The town hall is on Christchurch Street West, Frome BA11 1EB.

If you need a warm space to work or entertain children, the Key Centre’s Winter café is open 10.30 to 4.30 today (Thursday) and until 2.30pm tomorrow. There are free hot and cold refreshments, a free lunch, good wifi and space to work, relax or play. The café is open to everyone throughout December and January. The Key Centre is on Feltham Lane, Frome, BA11 5AJ, next to Christ Church School. The road closure signs refer to a road after Feltham Lane; there is free access to the Key Centre and the number 30 bus stops nearby.

Also open to everyone, Fair Frome’s ‘Food at Five’ is open this evening at Trinity Church Hall from 4.30 to 6.30 and is a designated warm space. Get a free hot meal and dessert: dietary requirements catered for. Food at Five also runs on Mondays at the Key Centre and on Wednesdays at Frome Cricket Club. Trinity Church Hall is on Trinity St, Frome BA11 3DE.

Purple Elephant – Frome can help if people are in need of toys or support for children.

Chair and Leader of FTC Cllr Fiona Barrows said “We know our community will step up at this difficult time for the residents of the flats and thank you so much to Fair Frome and to Frome Rotary too for their kind offer of help. We will keep sharing information of ways you can help. Please look out for more information and if you can respond to a specific, individual request today, then of course please do. However, at this point, while we work out next steps and speak to Selwood Housing, please don’t gather large quantities of items, or any larger items: in the first instance we just need to make sure people are warm, clothed, fed and reassured that plans are under way.”

Anyone needing assistance because of the fire can come into the town hall, call 01373 465757 or email info@frometowncouncil.gov.uk. The town hall is open 9am to 5pm and 9am to 4.30pm on Friday.
