Thousands of residents lined the streets on Friday 21st November for Frome Town Council’s annual Christmas Light Switch On and Lantern Parade. The town was beautifully illuminated as handmade lanterns, crafted with support from Frome Lanterns, wound their way down from North Parade, accompanied by the unforgettable rhythms of Jamma de Samba.

The Festive Food Court was alive with music from talented local artists throughout the evening, with performances from DJ Viner, Frome Town Band and Frome Street Bandits. Tom Carpenter and children from Tri.Art Dance and Performing Arts Academy wowed the crowd from the balcony.

Mayor Anita Collier led the ceremonial switch-on, joined by Tom Carpenter and Alice and Sophia from Tri.Art. The moment was made even more magical by a surprise visit from Father Christmas, who also welcomed families to his grotto at the We Hear You offices in support of their vital counselling services for adults, children and families affected by cancer and life-threatening conditions.

Local eateries stayed open late and the Festive Food Court served up delicious treats throughout the evening. The festivities don’t stop there: Late Night Christmas Shopping is coming to Frome on Friday 19th December, offering another opportunity to enjoy the town at its festive best while supporting Frome’s independent businesses.

Mayor of Frome, Anita Collier said, “This night wasn’t just about flipping a switch, it was a celebration of what makes Frome so special: creativity, compassion and a shared sense of belonging. It’s a highlight of the mayor’s calendar and truly one of Frome’s standout events. My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who helped bring it to life.”

White ribbons adorned the Christmas tree to mark Frome’s commitment to the White Ribbon campaign, which works to end violence against women and girls.

Thanks to the generosity of residents, nearly £1,000 has been raised for Fair Frome and the Frome Christmas Get Together to provide a free Christmas meal and companionship for socially isolated, lonely and vulnerable people and families in the local area.
