Walk/Ride/Frome – Let us know your thoughts

During lockdown many of us have left our cars at home and have been enjoying walking and cycling more. In fact, nationally there has been a 40% surge in bike sales recently both for leisure purposes and also as commuters search for a new, isolated way to travel to work.

Couple this with the additional active travel funding from the Government, there’s no better time to let Frome Town Council know your thoughts on how you think the roads around Frome could be improved for both pedestrians and cyclists.  The “active travel” funding is a £225 million package allocated to Local Authorities for cycling and walking initiatives, such as pop-up bike lanes, wider pavements and safer junctions  The first tranche of £45 million will be released as soon as possible so that work can begin therefore FTC are asking for your feedback on their interactive map, where you can place a pin and highlight areas that may need looking at from a pedestrians or cyclists point of view.

Cllr Rich Ackroyd, who has already added his comments to the map, said: “We want to hear your ideas, whether it’s a dangerous pinch point that needs addressing, a new cycle route, or inspiration for creating quieter residential streets, all ideas are welcome. We will take all suggestions and share these with Somerset County Council and Mendip District Council to explore how we can take these forward together.”

You can find the map at https://walkridefrome.commonplace.is/, all comments will need to be submitted by the end of the month to be included.
