Think of hidden Hedgehogs this Spring

Hedgehog Awareness Week runs from 30th April to 6th May 2017. Hedgehog Awareness Week is organised by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and takes place every year. It aims to highlight the problems hedgehogs face and how we can help them.

This year’s efforts are focused on a strimmer campaign – reminding anyone using machinery to check areas for hedgehogs before using it.

Our Rangers always check for hedgehogs before going ahead with any works. See what else you could do to help our hoggy friends:

Why not make your garden hedgehog friendly? You can do this by leaving a 13cm x 13cm gap in boundary fences and walls
Move any piles of rubbish to a new site before burning it
Ensure netting is kept at a safe height – so hedgehogs can’t get tangled up in it
Check compost heaps before digging the fork in, in case any hedgehogs are sleeping in it
Stop or reduce the amount of pesticides and poisons used
Cover drains or deep holes
Ensure there is an easy route out of ponds and pools
