Return of the Litter Warriors

With the recent easing of lockdown restrictions, the Litter Warriors have finally been able to head out for their first litter pick of 2021. On the 26th May the team returned with gusto and armed with their pickers and bags, cleared the area around Homebase, Sainsbury’s and along Manor Road. A huge amount was gathered, and many items were recycled where possible.

As group activities are now permitted, the Litter Warriors will resume their group litter picks twice a month and will have a whole schedule of dates and locations available soon. Anyone is welcome to join the Litter Warriors so please do get in touch by emailing them, any suggestions for future locations are always welcome too.

Cllr Rich Ackroyd, who is an avid litter picker, said: “Over the last year many people have been heading out solo or in household groups to do their own bit of litter picking and it really shows! Thank you to everyone who has helped to keep our town tidy. Now that we can join together as a group, the Litter Warriors will continue to wage their battle on the rubbish around Frome!”

The return of the warriors is timely as Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Great British Spring Clean’ is well underway, the campaign runs from 28th May to 13th June, and they are on a ‘Million Mile Mission’. If you’d like to participate and pledge litter picking miles then head to their website.

A limited amount of spare litter picking equipment is available to borrow at the Litter Warriors litter picks or you can contact Emma Parker at Frome Town Council to arrange to collect your own set.
