Mayor’s Column 5th January 2023

Hello everyone and welcome to 2023 and my first column of the year.

I hope that everyone was able to enjoy some relaxing and peaceful time over the holidays.  I know that it won’t have been easy for everyone, but I do hope at least that you were able to spend time with friends and family, take a break from the general hustle and bustle and recharge for the new year.

I was lucky to have some opportunities to visit and spend time with some of our wonderful community groups at their Christmas get togethers, and to recognise all the work put in by volunteers and organisers across the town.  I have eaten quite a lot of mince pies, and am personally rather relieved that they are only a once yearly requirement!

January always feels a little low key after the sparkle and lights and slight madness of Christmas. We still have a few months of dark nights and unpredictable weather ahead so I want to remind you all that there is so much support available across the town if you are struggling with anything, whether that is keeping your home warm or accessing the support services you need.

Frome Town Council’s website can point you in the direction of a range of services to help with the current cost of living crisis. There you will also find information about places you can go to keep warm and even have a free cup of tea and a friendly chat. Fair Frome can also offer support with food and furniture as well as having a new Baby Bank where you can find everything you may need to help welcome a new baby.

2023 sees a lot of work ahead for the IFF run council, and as ever we have big ambitions which we will keep you posted on! Among other things, it will be great to see the Boyle Cross fountain working again from March, to complement the new planters and greenery. Also don’t forget that the survey about the future of Frome Town Football Club is open until 16th January so if you get a chance do tell us what you think. It’s a hugely important issue for the future of the club and we want to hear as many views as possible. You can find the link to the survey on our website.

As we all get back into gear and inch towards Spring, I want to wish you all the very best for 2023 and remind you that you can contact me or my colleagues at the council at any time if there is anything we can help you with.
