Mayors column 26 September 2023

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s column as we head into autumn and the nights are drawing in.

Karin and I travelled to our twin German town, Murrhardt, to be part of the 40 Year Twinning Celebrations. We were hosted by Armin Mößner, Bügermeister Stadt Murrhardt and his amazing team led by Thomas Zeeb, Culture and Tourism. We attended various events over the weekend, and we are preparing a full report plus photos to share with you in the next issue.

I was delighted to be invited to the Cheese and Grain 25th Birthday Celebrations. The venue has become an important part of our community hosting a variety of regular events from Bingo and markets to Paul McCartney! The café is a great meeting place for many people and groups. The new studio is a brilliant facility for both established musicians and performers as well as nurturing the home-grown talent in Frome. Happy Birthday and continuing success.

Saturday saw another fantastic Frome Street Carnival. I had the pleasure of walking the procession this year and seeing all the crowds lining the route. The Carnival Committee work very hard throughout the previous twelve months to ensure a wonderful day of processions. Our thanks and congratulations go to the Carnival Committee, members and all the volunteers for their fundraising and planning to put on yet another wonderful carnival.

My Mayoral duties continue as normal. I recently attended the Area 4 Naval Association Frome Branch Meeting. I had the honour of welcoming members from all over the SW to Frome and this beautiful part of Somerset.

We were invited to the Rotary Dinner held at the Assembly rooms. Thank you to President Mike Danville, the Committee, and members. It was a lovely evening, and we were made to feel most welcome.

As you may have noticed, I am still busy promoting buses in Frome. Catch The Bus Month has been successful and a brilliant campaign from FAVBUG and Somerset Bus Partnership. So huge thanks to Tracey, Peter, and Lucy for all that you do. I am coordinating the cleaning of town bus shelters and auditing bus stops. Do remember to take advantage of the £2 bus fare and use your bus, don’t lose your bus!

Take care of one another and check on each other.
