Marigold Road fire – an update

Residents of Marigold Rd affected by the fire on 3 December are still unable to return home. The residents are in temporary to medium-term housing while this work continues.

A spokesperson fro Selwood Housing, who own the building, said “Our absolute focus has been to support the nine customers who have been directly impacted by the fire at Marigold Road, proactively calling customers on a daily basis, providing emergency financial support and working to secure their short and medium-term accommodation needs.

“We are working with customers to understand their preferences and wishes regarding their accommodation requirements. As of Friday 12 December, over half of impacted customers are set to move into temporary, but longer-term Selwood Housing accommodation. This figure will continue to rise as time progresses.

“With customers temporary, short-term accommodation into January now in place, we are working to secure them a suitable place to call home for the coming months. Over half of those impacted are now set to move into temporary Selwood Housing accommodation. This figure will continue to rise as time progresses.

“We also met this week with customers in person to share information and to understand preferences and requirements around more permanent housing. Everyone’s situation is different and we will continue to work on a case-by-case basis with our customers. Essential items are also being returned to customers from their homes at Marigold Road.

“Since the fire, we have visited the block daily to undertake key assessments. The block has now been assessed by structural engineers and demolition work has taken place to reduce the gable end to a safe level.

“We are also working closely with Somerset Council, Frome Town Council, Fair Frome and Frome Rotary Club. We are very grateful to these agencies for their support and assistance to our customers at this time.”

FTC’s Acting Town Clerk Peter Wheelhouse said “Our thoughts are with the residents of Marigold Road whose flats were impacted by the fire on 3 December. Thank you to Selwood Housing for their robust response and for checking in with residents daily. Thanks also to Fair Frome and Frome Rotary for everything they are doing.

“FTC stand ready to help in any way we can; people can call us on 01373 465757 or email info@frometowncouncil.gov.uk with specific requests for support or for signposting to local services.”
