Local Businesses Offered Opportunity to Increase Recycling and Cut Costs

Frome Town Council has been working with local businesses to explore setting up a trade waste consortium. The idea for the consortium arose following a business breakfast around ‘Reduce, Re-use, Recycle’ and an initial meeting to explore the idea attracted over 20 local businesses. The council has subsequently set up an on-line survey to find out current waste needs for local businesses. From this a shared tender document will be developed. To take the survey visit: www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk/tradewaste

Resilience Officer Anna Francis said “We currently have more than 15 different contractors collecting trade waste in Frome. They all offer different services at different prices and many of them do not recycle all waste streams. Through enabling local businesses to set up a consortium it is hoped that collection frequencies and quantities can be increased and costs reduced through working with one or two local contractors.”
