Have your say about road safety scheme

Residents, parents and school staff are encouraged to complete an evaluation survey to gauge the impact of the Safer School Streets scheme in Frome, as the 18-month trial enters its final months. The scheme, in place since April 2024, includes timed road closures and traffic-calming measures in the areas around Trinity First School, Oakfield Academy, Critchill School and Avanti Park School, the installation of cycle racks, benches, planters and informal crossings, plus a new zebra crossing on The Butts (pictured)

Following the trial end date in October 2025, the data collected will be considered alongside the survey to decide whether the scheme should become permanent and if any elements need to be modified.

Cllr Anita Collier said “Improving road safety for children travelling to school – and for everyone – is something we can all agree is of huge importance. We’re delighted to see the new crossing on The Butts in place as part of those safety improvements. Safer School Streets is a tried and tested model, but every town and every zone is different, and that’s where your feedback is so invaluable. The survey offers you an opportunity to share your experience of Safer School Streets and we hope to hear from lots of you, to create the fullest possible picture of the scheme’s success. As a thank you for taking part, there’s a prize draw to win a £100 OneForAll voucher.”

Matt Winfield, Chief Operating Officer at Sustrans, said ‘This scheme was designed in collaboration with the local community – it is really important that we check back in with residents to make sure that Frome’s Safer School Street scheme is enabling more children to walk, wheel and cycle to school more often.’
