Free community event asks: ‘How do we help creativity and community to thrive in Frome?’

A community event at Badgers Hill on Wednesday 25th June from 9.30am to 1.30pm will bring people together to discuss how we can work together, open up possibilities and solve challenges to facilitate creativity and community in Frome. Free tickets for the event include lunch by Sonny’s Kitchen.

Terrestrial’s Tom Spencer said “Every day in Frome, scores of creative people make great things happen. Independent artists and makers are busy painting, writing, sculpting, dancing, designing. And community groups are gathering to share food, dig gardens, teach sports, support young people.

“But it’s hard to do all of this. Costs rise, volunteers are stretched, it can be difficult for people to earn a good living, and opportunities aren’t the same everywhere…. so not everyone gets a chance to be part of Frome’s magic. In fact, according to Frome Town Council’s survey last year, more than 60% people in the town don’t feel connected to their neighbourhood.

“This event is for everyone who cares about making things happen in Frome – and you don’t need to have been involved in anything before.

We’ll be using ‘Open Space’ to guide this event, which is a way of hosting large meetings so that everyone gets a chance to talk about the issues that are important to them (and nobody gets stuck in conversations they find boring). No experience necessary – we’ll explain how it works on the day, And there’s no pressure to speak unless you want to. We’ll have a team of friendly helpers from Terrestrial and Frome Town Council for anyone who’d like support, to catch you up if you arrive late, or for any questions throughout the morning.
