A statement from FTC Chair Cllr Fiona Barrows

12th June 2025

Frome Town Council has received an updated proposal and business plan for taking on the lease at Badgers Hill. This follows an extraordinary meeting of Frome Town Council on Thursday 5th June, when councillors voted by majority to decline a previous request, with the door left ‘open for the private operator to improve their offer in relation to guaranteed long-term community benefit.’

Chair of FTC, Fiona Barrows, said:

“Frome Town Council welcomes the new proposal from the private operator and will consider it carefully.

“Our priority remains protecting Badgers Hill as a vital community asset, both as a football club and more. Having secured the site from repossession three years ago, and with almost £1million of public money and grants invested into the site since, we have a responsibility to safeguard this investment for our community. Any business plan must be truly sustainable, and have community benefit at their heart. We all want Badgers Hill to remain for generations to come.

“Ultimately, we’re all on the same team; tribal tensions have dominated the conversation and get in the way of the shared passion, vision and common ground that must take central stage now. This is an extremely complex decision to make and therefore takes time. We ask for your patience.”

A decision on the updated proposal will be made at the council meeting on 2nd July.
