A section of the riverbank near Frome Canoe Club has been damaged by the recent wet weather, and subsidence has occurred, causing damage to the adjacent footpath and safety barrier. Frome Town Council is actively managing the area and has erected barriers as an interim measure. Cllr Mark Dorrington said:
“As you’ll have seen if you’ve passed by, some cracks have appeared at the edge of the riverbank by the canoe club, and the handrail has started to lean. This is because the river has scoured out some of the bank during the very wet weather. We’re consulting with the Environment Agency and taking expert advice; we’ll update residents as soon as we know more and close the footpath if necessary. In the meantime, please take extra care in the area.”
