Mayor’s column 21 November 2019

One of the regular events I missed when I was away on holiday was Frome’s Parkrun. Known as The Old Showfield Parkrun, this is a free 5km run held every Saturday at 9am at the old Cheese Showfield and, since its’ inauguration in August, now regularly attracts two hundred runners. As well as helping to keep us fit, it is a very sociable event but to keep going they need to find 28 volunteers every week. They are very keen to attract new helpers so if you can spare an hour or two on a Saturday morning to marshal, be a time-keeper or help in any way please contact the marvellous organising team at theoldshowfieldhelpers@parkrun.com

By now you may have realised that we are having a General Election on 12th December. Frome Town Council recognises the importance of helping residents make an independent decision on which candidate should become the next MP for the constituency of Somerton and Frome.

A public hustings event has been organised at Frome Town Football Club on Sunday 24th November between 2pm and 4.30pm. All candidates have agreed to attend so you can put your questions to them directly. Members of their parties have been invited to arrange information stands so you can find out more about their policies. If you are unable to attend but would like to have your question asked, please email it to lflaherty@frometowncouncil.gov.uk

If you have not yet registered to vote the deadline is 12 midnight on Tuesday 26th November. You can do this online at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or visit the Town Hall where our staff will be happy to assist. I hope to see as many as possible of you at the hustings.
