Mayor’s column 16 July 2020

I took the opportunity last week to go ‘walkabout’ around the town visiting some of our wonderful pubs, cafes & businesses.

It was fabulous to chat to so many people about how they’re enjoying being open for business again. Most people told me that although it’s not yet back to normal, it’s good to see customers shopping locally, enjoying the experience, going back to the pub, and being pretty good at maintaining their social distance. I also chatted to the guys who are working on the town centre Market Place improvements who were able to tell me they’re well on schedule and pleased with how everything is going.

I managed to grab a few moments for a chat in all these amazing places … so a big thank you to The Cornerhouse, The Black Swan, The River House, The Blue Boar, The Fat Radish, The Three Swans, Ramshackle, Hunting Raven, La Strada, The Garden Café, Mark Brookes’ pop up photography gallery, The Why Shop, Penleigh Butchers, Moo & Two, The Bottle Shop, Cordero’s, Coffee 1, SK Fruits, and Flow, the new bar on the bridge. My thanks go to all those businesses who seemed so pleased to see me and who gave me such a warm welcome, take a look at some photos from the day on my ‘Mayor of Frome’ Facebook page.

Another very welcome sight this week was the return of The Farmers’ Market, it’s still at the Cheese & Grain, just outside on the patio area. It was lovely to see so many people shopping for their fresh fruit & veg, as well as wandering safely through the Saturday weekly market.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of you who have made such a fantastic effort to make your establishments so safe. You’re a credit to Frome, and I wish you all continued success as we go forward! Seeing Frome start to bounce back like this makes me very happy and extremely proud that I’m the Mayor of such a resilient and positive thinking town.

I’m planning on more outings next week to catch up with some more businesses and venues in the town so if you spot me, please say hello – I’m always ready to listen to your thoughts.

Until then, I wish you a safe and happy week.
