Last night’s IAC meeting

Last night’s Internal Affairs Committee had a lengthy discussion on imposing Dog Control Orders on FTC land.

Cllrs considered the results of the recent public survey which indicated overwhelming (over 80%) public support for DCOs that would make it an offence for dog owners not to pick up after their dogs on any FTC owned land. This land includes Rodden Meadow, Mary Baily Play Park and Victoria Park. The survey also included the same level of support for banning all dogs from areas that have play equipment. While slightly fewer people wanted dogs on leads at all times in Victoria Park, 68% of respondents still supported this.

The Committee agreed to these proposals on the condition that the impact of the DCOs will be monitored over the year ahead and to review their effectiveness in April next year. The next step will be to arrange with the police to implement these measures.
