Is Frome hosting the UK’s first Sharing Festival?

Throughout the month of November SHARE: A library of Things will be hosting what is thought to be the UK’s first sharing festival. During the month the SHARE shop on the Bridge will be holding workshops and events to enable the local community to share items, skills and ideas.

The festival was launched at the Frome independent marked on 1 November with a DIY Doctor who gave free advice and tips.

Throughout the month-long event there will be weekly activities at the shop including:

  • DIY Wednesdays – Featuring the DIY doctor and Men’s Shed to answer DIY questions and queries
  • Tool and knife sharpening
  • Create Thursday – a make do and mend clothes fixing workshop
  • Weaving workshop
  • Clothes swap events
  • A repair café every Saturday!

Other events include Edventure’s “Surplus Supper Club”, discussion on alternatives to money and a workshop for other towns looking to start up their own Library of Things.

Project Manager Maija Powell explains “We are really excited about hosting this festival of sharing. It’s the perfect opportunity to brush up your skills, get creative and share ideas. It’s also a great chance to come to the SHARE shop and see what we have to offer. The great thing about sharing is it makes you feel good too!”

Other organisations and community groups are involved in the programme. Full programmes will be available from the SHARE shop.  See www.sharefrome.org or pop into the shop for more information about up-coming events and news.
