Frome Deputy Mayor Takes to The Sky for Why

On Saturday October 1st Cllr Al O’Kane, Deputy Mayor of Frome will face his fears and skydive from 10,000ft over Salisbury in support of Frome based charity ‘We Hear You’ (formerly Positive Action on Cancer).

Al hopes to raise a significant amount of money for WHY and hopes to highlight the importance of emotional support for people affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses- an issue that is often forgotten.
Al said “I’m very excited to be doing my first skydive! And especially as it’s for such a good cause – I’ve known about WHY for a while now and think they do a fantastic job. It’s wonderful that they’re growing as a local charity and hopefully they’ll keep growing and be able to support and offer advice to many more people in need. It’s the least I can do!”
Referrals to the free professional counselling service that WHY offers to children and adults across the community have doubled over the last 12 months.
Assistant Fundraiser for WHY, Helen Sprawson-White said “As a small charity we are facing challenging times. Without any government funding we rely heavily on the generosity of our community to support our service so that we can meet the increasing demand and reach those families in need of our help at what can be a frightening and overwhelming time for both patients and their family and friends. We are delighted that Al has chosen to support We Hear You in both helping us raise awareness and vital funds, we are very grateful to him and all of our skydiving team.”
