Councillors agree remit of Frome’s new Arts Panel

Another interesting and full agenda saw lots of discussion at a well-attended meeting last night – so thank you to everyone who came along and joined in!

The Environment team and the Rangers’ work was firmed up for 2016/17, including pressing ahead with improving the Old Showfield. Plans here include wildflower meadows; planting a mixed native hedge around the play area; hard-surfaced paths all the way around the outside of the site; and lots of tree planting. The provision of outdoor fitness opportunities was also discussed by Cllrs.

Just as importantly, steps to produce a set of plans for all of the Council’s parks and green spaces were agreed – with opportunities for community involvement and engagement.

Also agreed was a request to use the Section 106 from the Mendip Lodge development to promote cycle route provisions and the ‘Walkers are Welcome’ scheme – helping to establish Frome as a destination for both walkers and cyclists.

Completing the evening was the formation of the Performing Arts Panel with Cllr Al O’Kane appointed as project sponsor. The remit includes supporting venues, performers and audiences. You can view the report in the minutes here.

The agenda and reports for last night’s meeting are here and the draft minutes will be posted online over the coming weeks.
