Residents are invited to Brunch on Brunel Green on Sunday 13th September, from 11am to 1pm, to explore the ideas, stories and creativity that have emerged from a summer of community activities focused on the future of this green space.
Over the past few months, Frome Town Council has been working with Super Roots and Caravan Arts to learn more about how Brunel Green and the surrounding corridor of green spaces are used, and what local people would like to see happen there in the future.
The summer programme has seen residents counting wildlife, collecting pollen like bees, spotting bugs and bats, swinging in hammocks, creating pop-up art, joining playdays and sharing conversations with the team on Brunel Green. Along the way ideas, observations and comments have been gathered about the role the space plays in local life and its potential for the future.
A local resident said, “We’d like to see anything that supports nature. Planting for wildlife, a pond, more trees. We love the mowing patterns and uncut grass that you do in the Showfield. We’ve been inspired to do something similar in our little garden!”
A child who attended one of the Playing Out sessions said, “‘It’s great having all these different activities on the field. I loved the pavement chalk games and drawing and playing rounders with Katie and Joel (Super Roots).”
Residents are now invited to Brunch on Brunel Green to enjoy free coffee and pastries, explore an exhibition of ideas and creative responses inside the Caravan Arts caravan, and add their own thoughts to the conversation. The event will also share what the council has learned through the engagement process and outline possible next steps.
Liz Stone, Community Engagement Officer at Frome Town Council said: “Brunel Green has been full of activity this summer. We’ve met people of all ages, discovered how important these green spaces are to the community and heard some fantastic ideas about what could happen there in the future. Brunch on Brunel Green is an opportunity to celebrate everything we’ve learned so far, reflect on the ideas that have emerged and make sure even more voices are part of the conversation.”
Brunel Green is one of a number of green and open spaces that Frome Town Council took on following devolution from Somerset Council, and the council is keen to ensure that any future improvements are informed by the people who use them most.
Everyone is welcome to attend Brunch on Brunel Green. Whether you’ve been involved throughout the summer or are visiting for the first time, it’s a chance to discover the project, meet neighbours and help shape the future of this valued community space.
