Call for artists for visual projects in Frome

The existing mower shed artwork

Frome Town Council is seeking expressions of interest from local artists and designers for two forthcoming projects: a mural on the ‘mower shed’ building in Frome Victoria Park, facing the Mary Baily Playing Field, and a suite of printed and digital town maps, with a large-scale permanent version to be displayed throughout Frome.

Mower shed mural

Victoria Park is a much-loved green space in Frome, used year-round by families, sports clubs and people of all ages. The mower shed is a small, practical building located on a well-used path between Victoria Park and Mary Baily. The wall of this building has been used as a prominent canvas for public art to date. The building is now ready for a refresh with a bold, super-realistic graffiti-style mural, to bring colour, energy and creativity to the park. The deadline for expressing an interest is Friday 29th August; full information is available from the link at the foot of this article.

Discover Frome maps

Frome Town Council is also seeking interest from designers and illustrators to create a new town map design, for display on noticeboards around Frome to guide residents and visitors, with paper and digital versions for download, or to be handed out at the Discover Frome information point and town hall. The new maps form part of the revamp of the Discover Frome website and will:

  • Show a clear, attractive overview of the town’s layout
  • Highlight shopping areas, local landmarks and transport links
  • Cover a wider area than the previous map, incorporating the station, Frome Medical Practice, Badgers Hill, Badcox and the Boulder Rooms.
  • Be reflective of Frome’s independent character, walkability, and vibrant local culture
  • Have a consistent visual identity across all uses (print and digital) in keeping with the Discover Frome brand identity.

The deadline for interest in the maps project is 31st August. More information about the brief, budgets and how to express an interest are at https://www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk/council/frome-town-council/contracts-and-tenders.
