Staff from Frome-based cosmetics company THG Labs recently headed out of the office for a day working with Frome Town Council in St John’s and got stuck into a variety of outdoor tasks on the green space around the play area.
Frome Town Ranger Asia said: “We had a brilliant day and made a great start on improving the green space at St John’s for the community there. THG Labs worked with us in 2024 to create a lovely sensory bed in Victoria Park and we’re so pleased to have their support for this exciting new project. We can achieve so much more with extra pairs of hands and we hope the team at THG got a lot out of it too! We’re always keen to hear from businesses who would like to have an ‘away day’ with us – we’re busier than ever since taking on an additional 57 open spaces as part of devolution from Somerset Council and we’d love some help with important winter jobs like coppicing, mulching and conservation, so it can be at any time of year. Getting out in nature is so beneficial for you, and your help is so beneficial for us! Please get in touch if you’d like to find out more about team days with us, or joining our team of volunteer rangers.”
Comments from THG labs staff included ‘it feels good to help the community and learn something at the same time’ and ‘the physical work did me good – it got me going!’
The improvements to the green space are part of a wider project to work with the St John’s community to find out what residents would like to see happen in their local area and create a community garden, following the success of the rejuvenation of Milk Street Green earlier this year. FTC Engagement Officer Emily has been popping up around St John’s to start conversations and welcomes thoughts and suggestions at any time by email to engage@frometowncouncil.gov.uk or by requesting a call back by calling 01373 465757 in office hours.
Cllr Mark Dorrington said:
“Frome’s parks and green spaces are great places to relax, meet neighbours and friends and tap into all the known benefits of being outdoors. With the acquisition of lots of new green spaces from Somerset Council comes an opportunity to breathe new life into some lesser-known spaces around Frome, connect with new communities and make it easier for them to connect with each other. Do stop and chat to Emily when you see her out and about and take part in the community garden project – details will be available soon.
