The Key Centre, a community venue owned and operated by Frome Town Council (FTC) offers a busy programme of regular and ad hoc events with activities, services and support for the Frome community. FTC acquired the former Sure Start Centre, located on Feltham Lane in The Mount area in 2025, as part of devolution from Somerset Council.
On Mondays at 5pm, local charity Fair Frome hosts Food at Five, providing a hot two-course dinner on a drop-in basis, with a suggested donation of £1. There are also Food at Five sessions at Frome Cricket Club on Wednesdays and Trinity Church on Thursdays.
On Tuesdays in August, family support charity Purple Elephant are hosting ‘Chat and Play’ sessions from 10am to 2pm, providing a space for families to come together and socialise during the summer holidays. A new weekly young parents group for parents up to the age of 25 is due to start on 8 September and will run from 11am to 1pm.
On the third Wednesday of the month from 9am to 11am, Frome residents are invited to visit the council’s Healthy Homes team to get advice and support with energy costs and the energy efficiency of their homes. From September, regular term-time groups return on Wednesdays, including Small Steps parenting support group and ‘Tea and Toasties’, a drop-in for young people aged 12 and over, both run by Purple Elephant, and a family bingo night on the last Wednesday of the month.
Thursdays are a busy day at the Key Centre, with The Pod café offering affordable drinks and snacks from 9.15 to 2.30, a chance to get involved with gardening at the Community Garden from 11am to 1pm and a stay and play with Purple Elephant from 10am to 12pm (no session 13 August). Trained staff are available on Wednesdays from 10am to 12pm for food bank referrals and the School Nurse runs a monthly session from 2pm to 4pm (next session 3 September).
The Baby Connections team are on hand on Friday mornings from 10am to 11.30am for breastfeeding and infant care support. Coming soon in September are a Climate Café (3rd Friday of the month) and the return of ‘Campfire Club’, an after-school outdoor play session hosted by Super Roots.
The centre also hosts Frome Birth Talk’s counselling service for expecting and new parents (by referral), a monthly Armed Forces outreach sessions (next session 7 September 1pm to 3pm) and Frome Baptist Church every Sunday from 10.30am to 12.15pm. Nova Sports are running sensory sports sessions for children with disabilities on 13 and 27 August (book via Nova Sports). A new ‘Singing Mamas’ group launches on 27 August from 12.30pm to 1.30pm (book via Singing Mamas).
