Syrian refugees – can you help?

A number of refugee families have been allocated to Somerset under the government’s Vulnerable Persons Scheme.  Two families, amongst the 4 million displaced people from the war in Syria, currently living in a refugee camp in Lebanon, have been specifically allocated to Mendip.  A group in Frome has been preparing for their arrival but now find availability of accommodation a real stumbling block.  Can you please help?

Mendip District Council (MDC) and the local Support Group in Frome are looking for a 2 bed and 3 bed property.  These properties are required urgently.

MDC will provide much practical and financial re-settlement support including:

  • They will pay the upfront costs associated with a new tenancy
  • The Council will cover the market value rent of the property for a minimum of 1 year.
  • They will pay the landlord lost rental income if they agree to hold the property

Further details of the support package is attached here Mendip’s Landlord Proposal document

If you can help, please contact Joy Chadbourne of Mendip District Council at
