Last week, Mendip published the formal ‘notice of election’ of the forthcoming Town, City and District Council by-elections.

Voters from Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet and Wells will go to the polls on Thursday 6th May 2021 to have their say on the by-elections for Town, City and District Councils.

Meanwhile, here in Frome, and all residents across Mendip, will have the opportunity to vote in the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner elections.

Stuart Brown, Mendip District Council’s Chief Executive and Returning Officer, said: “I would like to remind residents to register to vote before the deadline on Monday 19 April 2021. Don’t lose your vote, have your say and register here www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.”

You will need to register by 11:59pm on 19th April to vote in the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner elections on 6th May.

Who can register?

You must be aged 16 or over.

You must also be one of the following:

  • a British citizen
  • an Irish or EU citizen living in the UK
  • a Commonwealth citizen who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, or who does not need permission

You only need to register once – not for every election. You’ll need to register again if you’ve changed your name, address or nationality.  It’s super quick and only takes 5 minutes to register, you’ll be asked for your National Insurance number (but you can still register if you do not have one). And after you’ve registered, your name and address will appear on the electoral register.

Head over to the Government’s website to learn more and register.
