The People’s Budget – Last chance to register

On the 17th of March, Frome Football Club will be filled with local men, women and children with one job – to vote on what events they’d like to see happen in throughout 2018. This is the People’s Budget Panel. It can be up to 200 people strong, and there’s still time for you to register.

Last year, the same budget paid for events including the Christmas Light Switch On, Frome FM Party in the Park, and the Big Disability Diversity Day. Councillor Kate Bielby said, “ Frome is great at doing events and events like this are for the whole town to enjoy, so we’re inviting the whole town to tell us what they would like to spend the Events budget on.” Many of the events are for families and so kids ten years and over (accompanied by an adult) are invited to have their say on voting day too.

Community groups have already stepped forward with their event ideas, and they’ve been narrowed down to a list of six, as follows:

  • Black Swan – Frome Window Wanderland 2019
  • Frome Town Rotary – Frome Fireworks
  • Frukes – Frome Ukulele Festival
  • Home in Frome – Light the Night – Frome Lantern Procession
  • Rare Species – Free Fitness for All
  • Show of Strength Theatre Company – Trading Local

To find out more about each event you must register and then turn up to the special event which is being held to showcase them. Each one-off event will be pitched to the panel who will then choose. There is £25, 000 in the kitty up for grabs.

Frome Town Councillor Toby Eliot said “It’s a great chance for any town resident to decide what they want to see happening in Frome. More importantly you get to decide how we spend the town’s events budget. Whatever the collective decision is; that’s what will happen.”

Voting takes place between 10.30 and 12.00pm on the 17th March and includes lunch. If you’d like to stick around and hear the results, they will be revealed at 12.30pm. You need to be a Frome resident, and you must be ten years or over.

The deadline for registration has been extended to the 11th March, so sign up now.

If you (and/or the kids) want to register to take part fill in the form below, call in to the Town Hall, or ring 01373 465757.
