On Thursday 21 May, 320 Frome residents came together at the Cheese and Grain to watch ‘The People’s Emergency Briefing’ a hard hitting, highly informative short film which presents the climate emergency in a refreshingly rebooted format, designed for mass consumption.
Following the screening, small groups formed to discuss the film, how it made them feel and what they wanted to do together. The groups were facilitated by 25 volunteers from the community.
Event co-organiser – Georgia Clark said –
“We wanted to hold with care the wide range of emotional and psychological responses that the climate emergency provokes. The circulation of reactions and ideas in the post-film discussion felt energising and impactful, and a clear indicator that we need to create more space for conversations like these.”
Another event organiser – Sue Palmer said –
“We are in a climate and nature emergency – it’s uncomfortable and upsetting but we can’t ignore it – it won’t just go away. The solutions are here, we just need to act – and the more of us involved, the better it is.”
Sara Butler, newly appointed as the town councillor lead on climate, said “FTC is delighted to have funded the film screening and a packed Cheese and Grain is a real comment on the level of energy this issue brings in Frome”
The National Emergency Briefing (NEB) is a campaign led by experts on climate change, food security, economics, health and more. In November 2025 the group addressed an invited audience of 1,200 political, business, faith, sporting and cultural leaders in Westminster and the People’s Emergency Briefing film (PEB) was created to bring the campaign’s message and information sharing to a much wider audience. The campaign’s two central aims are to persuade the government to share key facts on national media and to ensure as many people as possible see the film.
The NEB encourages further screenings of the People’s Emergency Briefing: find out more about how to arrange a screening and access free resources on the National Emergency Briefing website at https://www.nebriefing.org/the-film.
