Mayor’s Column 18 October 2018

Frome Town Council introduced the People’s Budget (PB) a few years ago, as a way for people to make choices about how local money is spent.  This year we’ve made £35,000 available for PB on a variety of projects.

For example, we’ve set aside £7,500 for each of the play areas at Packsaddle and Tower View.  We’d like to know how you want us to spend this money.  You’ll be able to choose from three options at special events in each park area.  Votes can be cast on the day: one person, one vote.  Alternatively, you can return a paper entry to Frome Town Hall.  Anyone living in Frome over the age of 8 can take part.

Also thanks to PB, Frome Rotary Clubs are joining together to host a spectacular free firework display on the 3rd November.  The event is completely free to attend and will take place at the Old Showfield, with refreshments available from 6.30pm.  It will be a nice way to bring the community together and is sure to be a winner. And why not make your very own lantern to light the night at the Christmas Light Switch On in November?  Free workshops are open to all and will give you enough time to create a unique paper and willow lantern to use in the parade.  Please go to fromelanterns.co.uk for more details.  Finally, don’t miss the chance to celebrate the new community orchard at the Old Showfield.  Celebrations start at 12pm on Sunday 21st October and will include face painting, apple crafting and an opportunity for a guided tour of the orchard to discover the new space designed by volunteer Lou Miles from the Peculiar Botanist.

Details of all the PB projects are here: www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk/participatory-budgeting-frome/.  If you have any suggestions for future initiatives please let us know.  After all it is the People’s Budget.
