Discover Frome Makers’ Christmas Market

The Discover Frome Information Point at the Black Swan Arts will be holding a Christmas Frome Makers’ market from 6th – 17th December providing the perfect opportunity to find those unique Christmas gifts. The Christmas market will feature six local makers covering a variety of disciplines including glass work, photography, jewellery and fine art.

Claire Vowell, of Seaborn Designs, and self-proclaimed ‘nurdlenerd’ will be selling copies of her three nurdle books as well as her ocean plastic jewellery. Each piece is unique, made with recycled eco-silver and unrecyclable plastics, microplastics, nurdles and fishing wire collected and cleaned from UK beaches.

Also with an ocean theme, there will be jewellery made from sea glass by artist Sue Willis who will also have her beautiful pen and ink drawings and silk paintings on display.

Wildlife photographer, artist and writer Victoria Hillman will be showcasing her stunning wildlife photography in the form of prints and cards and keeping to a wildlife theme, artist Kerry Munden Starr will be wowing visitors with her beautiful wildlife portraits painted on reclaimed wood.

To finish off the collection, there will be two glass artists. Jade Pinnell, will be displaying her stunning, one-off keepsakes and Christmas decorations made from cast glass as well as her unique stocking-filler paint-your-own craft sets. Fellow glass artist Rich Highfield of Hoyti Toyti completes the line-up with his beautiful glass tree decorations and vases.

Leader of the council Anita Collier said “It’s fantastic that we are able to support the Discover Frome Makers initiative.  There is such a wealth of variety and talent in Frome that it is important to showcase that as much as possible.  It is also important that we all support our local businesses at this time  – when you support an artist maker you are supporting an endeavour which quite literally puts pounds in the pockets of people of Frome.  It is a win/win all round and you get a beautiful handmade item in to the bargain!”

The Discover Frome: Makers initiative launched earlier this year and has seen work by local artists and makers displayed in the Round Tower, as well as a directory of makers compiled on the Discover Frome website.

The Makers’ Market will be open 10am-4pm Monday, Wednesday and Saturday and 10am-1pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. For more festive shopping inspiration head over to www.discoverfrome.co.uk
