Through music, they ignite imagination, boost confidence, strengthen relationships, enhance wellbeing and give voices to untold stories.

Beyond vibrant community programmes, they empower educators, musicians and the wider music education sector with expert training and consultancy—helping to shape a more inclusive and inspiring musical future.

What is Community Music?

Community music isn’t defined by a single instrument, genre, or style—it’s about people coming together to create, explore and connect through music. Open to everyone, regardless of experience, community music embraces the joy and power of collective music-making. Whether singing, playing, or composing, participants are guided by highly skilled practitioners in inclusive, welcoming sessions.

Over the past 20 years, community music has flourished across the UK, with growing evidence of its impact. It has been shown to boost mental health, strengthen personal and community identity and empower people to engage more fully with the world around them. More than just making music, it’s a shared experience that fosters friendship, fun and a sense of belonging. It can also enhance concentration, improve learning outcomes in schools and build confidence, self-esteem and valuable life skills.

Early Years Children & Families – Evolve Music’s child-led adult-responsive approach to early years music helps to develop creativity and musicality, language and communication skills, wellbeing and emotional regulation in young children.

It can also have positive impacts on home and educational environments.

Young People – Through their Sound Lab programme they run weekly music groups for neurodiverse young people both online and in South West community spaces. Join one of their Sound Labs and explore music, express your inner musicality and have fun through improvisation, songwriting, music technology, instrumental performance and games

Sound Lab is a regular community music group for neurodiverse young people (14+) that happens in Radstock, Yeovil and online.

It is a chance for young people to connect with and socialise with young people outside of their normal network. The current groups are made up of young people from a number of schools and also include school-leavers.

Artist Development – Through a number of programs they help established and aspiring local artists.

Partnership working – Partnership working with education, health and social care providers means they can position community music projects and services at the very heart of communities.
