Cultivating Community is a community interest company with an social mission to alleviate loneliness and isolation through nature connectedness. They are based in Frome, Somerset and work in two nature based sites Victoria Park Community Cafe, and LOOP Compostings new home in St Marys.
To fund their work they have a plant buying club and make bespoke packets of seeds as favours or gifts for events and special occasions.
Become a volunteer: Like many organisations volunteer support is at the heart of everything they do. If you have skills and time you would like to contribute to either the café or the garden join their teams.
Organise a corporate volunteer away day: Talk to your boss about doing a corporate volunteer away day at a new project site in Frome in collaboration with LOOP composting. There is nothing like digging up bind weed to bring people together.
Make Cultivating Community your community organisation of the year: They have a lot of fundraising goals in 2026 to develop programmes in Victoria Park and build Nature Lab, a practical demonstration site for climate-adaptive growing. Funding will build compost bays, nursery benches, paths, tools and learning areas. They will run volunteer days, workshops on composting, wildlife-friendly and drought-resilient planting, and produce peat-free compost from local food waste.

Sign up to the plant buying mailing list to be first in line for off-season wholesale perennial plants at attractive prices, whether that’s edible forest plants, bare root perennials, roses or even herbs. Not only does the club help fund theirwork, but it also encourages sustainable gardening practices like fewer plastic pots and less transport mileage.
They also offer work skills training and micro jobs for those that traditionally find the pathway into work challenging. Young people gain hands-on experience in a supportive working environment, learning everything from customer service to kitchen skills.
