Cycling on Prescription

Frome Medical Practice, Frome Town Council, Health Connections Mendip and Love to Ride have got together to see if Frome can set up the first Somerset Cycling on Prescription programme.

Frome Town Council has offered to provide the bikes, Love to Ride has an exciting interactive website to keep people motivated, informed and help them set goals, Frome Medical Practice and Health Connections Mendip can let patients know about the scheme.

Cara Naden, Resilience Officer at Frome Town Council said “We need people to take this idea forward. If you are interested in getting involved in setting up this scheme or if you have ideas of how it can work, come along to Frome Medical Practice on Thursday 23rd March 5-6.30pm. If you are not able to make it but would like to be involved, give Health Connections Mendip a call on 01373 468366 or email me, Cara, on nadenc@frometowncouncil.gov.uk

Frome resident Sam Robinson runs the UK Love to Ride programme. Love to Ride is a global technology and behaviour change social business who believe the world is better when more people ride bikes. Their award-winning programmes, web platforms and integrated GPS app is used from Australia to North America and from Rome to Frome! Sam says:

“We love the idea of prescribing a bike for health – so we’re supporting this new community project with a tailored web platform – www.lovetoride.net/frome – to host and monitor activity and share local information such as led rides and local cycling routes.  Whether you ride to save money, to support your local environment, get fit or stay healthy – the benefits are broad and are there for the taking! Come along on Thursday 23rd March and help us get this great initiative off the ground”
