Young Frome resident Charlie started litter picking for the volunteering element of his Silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award in November 2025. Since then he has undertaken 24 litter picks over nine months at locations across the town, including Millennium Green, the Old Showfield, North Parade and Rodden Meadow, above and beyond the requirements of his award. He even continued his mission on holiday in Cornwall in December, with a litter pick at Coverack Beach on the Lizard Peninsula.
Cllr Nick Dove said “Many thanks to Charlie for this brilliant effort, making spaces across Frome tidier and more enjoyable for everyone. Of course, it’s a shame that we need people to step up in this way, but young people are often blamed for creating litter and it’s refreshing to see that in this case, Charlie is the one making things better.”
Frome Town Council has litter picking kits available through its community borrowing scheme – find out more at https://tinyurl.com/ftc-community-borrowing.
