Thousands of residents gathered at the Old Showfield on Thursday 29 October for a spectacular Halloween drone show, with more than £12,000 raised for the Frome Skatepark Project and the new skatepark planned for Mary Baily Playing Fields. The free event, organised by Frome Town Council, featured a Halloween-themed drone display from Britain’s Got Talent runners-up Celestial.

A fleet of 750 illuminated drones, making it one of the largest drone shows in the UK, took to the skies, creating breathtaking Halloween-inspired scenes that delighted audiences of all ages. The show continued Celestial’s tradition of bringing innovative aerial storytelling to Frome, following previous community displays that have become much-loved local events.

Before the main performance, attendees enjoyed a variety of warming food and drink from local vendors and family-friendly entertainment, including fairground rides, face painting, light stalls from Frome Carnival and fundraising merchandise from Frome Skatepark Project. One couple also got engaged during the evening’s shout-outs, adding to the celebrations!

The event also saw fantastic support from local volunteers. Members of Frome Town Rotary, Rotary Club of Frome, Selwood Rotary and Frome Lions Club generously gave their time to help set up the event and collect donations on the night with Frome Skatepark Project, contributing to the impressive fundraising total.

Mark Dorrington, Mayor of Frome, said: “What an incredible evening for Frome. Raising more than £10,000 for the Frome Skatepark Project is a fantastic achievement and I’d like to thank everyone who attended, donated, volunteered or helped make the event possible. Special thanks must go to Celestial for once again putting on an unforgettable show for the community.”

JP, Director and Head of Production at Celestial, said: “Frome has always been a special place for Celestial. We have a long-standing relationship with the town, we’re based just outside it, and many of our team live locally, so it means a great deal to be back performing for our community. The people of Frome supported us hugely during our time on Britain’s Got Talent, voting for us in such large numbers, and we won’t forget that support. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to give something back while supporting such a worthwhile cause.”

The funds raised through the drone show will help bring Frome Skatepark Project a step closer to reality. There is still time to donate, simply text DRONE to 70580. Donations cost £5 per text.
