Frome’s first Green Open Homes for those looking to improve their homes

With energy costs continuing to rise, changing weather patterns and growing interest in home improvements to combat these issues, many people are wondering just where to start.

Frome Green Open Homes, taking place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November, aims to help answer that question by connecting residents with practical examples of energy-saving improvements and the support available to make homes warmer, healthier and cheaper to run.

The event will allow residents to view a range of local properties at different stages of their retrofit journey. From simple measures such as draught-proofing and improved ventilation to larger projects including insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps, visitors can explore what different approaches look like in practice and discover which options might suit their own homes.

Cllr Sara Butler said: “Many people know they would like to improve their home’s energy efficiency, but it can be difficult to know what measures are right for their property or where to begin. Green Open Homes gives residents the chance to explore different options, learn from real-life experiences and access reliable advice to help them make informed decisions.”

As well as seeing a range of energy-saving measures in action, visitors can find out more about the support available through Frome Town Council’s Healthy Homes programme. The service offers free advice from trained Energy Champions, Home Energy Plans for eligible households, home visits, support with damp, condensation and mould, guidance on reducing energy costs and energy debt, advice on grants and funding opportunities, and support with retrofit improvements including insulation, ventilation, solar technologies and low-carbon heating.

Green Open Homes offers an opportunity to better understand the options available and the support on offer locally, whether you’ve got a big improvement project in the works or just considering a few smaller changes.  To find out more, view participating homes and book visits, go to frome.greenopenhomes.net
