End of summer is just the beginning at Brunel Green

Mayor of Frome stands with local residents at the Brunch on Brunel Green

A summer of community conversations, play, wildlife discovery and creativity may have come to an end, but the next chapter for Brunel Green is only just beginning.

Over the summer, Frome Town Council invited residents to help shape the future of Brunel Green and the wider corridor of connected green spaces around Stonebridge. Through family playdays, wildlife activities, community events and informal conversations, local people shared their ideas about how the area could be improved and enjoyed in the years ahead.

The programme of engagement finished with ‘Brunch on Brunel Green’ a community event showcasing what had been learned and revealing a series of illustrations created by Frome artist Jenna Herman. Drawing on ideas gathered from local households and people who attended pop-up events, playdays and community activities, Jenna’s artwork captured residents’ aspirations for the space and reflected the many ways people use and value Brunel Green.

Mayor of Frome, Cllr Mark Dorrington, said: “Brunel Green has been full of activity and fun this summer, with local people of all ages helping us explore what makes this space special and how it could develop in the future. Thanks so much to those that took part, it’s been wonderful to see so many residents get involved with sharing their thoughts, stories and experiences. I am pleased to say this is not the end of the project, but the beginning of a new phase that will help shape Brunel Green for both people and wildlife.”

The next stage of the project will see the council’s ranger team and tree officer review the feedback gathered throughout the engagement process and use it to develop a management plan and planting scheme for the area.

Brunel Green is one of a number of green spaces cared for by Frome Town Council following devolution from Somerset Council. The feedback gathered throughout the summer has provided a valuable insight into how local people use the space and what they would like to see there in the future.
