| By Word Theatre is a not-for-profit company that aims to provide small-scale plays in Frome pubs and other non-traditional venues. They want to provide engaging, entertaining plays, some of which will be socially relevant. Small-scale theatre is intimate, because the audience is only a few feet away from the play. For the actors, there’s nowhere to hide, so it’s a very pure art form. The limitations of small-scale theatre mean a tiny cast, and little or no scenery or special effects. And because we have those restrictions, we end up with a simple, stripped-down production which adds to the power of the play. |
