What if your home could be more comfortable in winter, cooler in summer, cheaper to run and better for your health and the planet?
Frome residents will have the chance to see how other local households are making this a reality when Frome Town Council launches Frome Green Open Homes on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November.
Homes across Frome will open their doors for the special launch weekend, giving residents the opportunity to see energy-efficiency improvements in real homes and talk directly to the people who have made them.
The homes taking part will showcase a wide range of approaches. Some households are just beginning their retrofit journey and have received a free whole-house assessment through Frome Town Council’s Healthy Homes programme. Others have already made improvements, ranging from simple, low-cost measures to larger investments such as insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps.
Visitors will have the opportunity to look around, ask questions and find out what might work for their own property.
Cllr Sara Butler said, “There is no single approach to creating a more energy efficient home. Every property is different, and improvements can be made gradually to suit different homes, needs and budgets. Seeing these changes in a real home and talking to someone who has already made them can make a huge difference. You can see what is possible, find out what things cost, and get ideas for your own home. There will be examples of small changes as well as larger projects, so there should be something for everyone.”
Energy-efficient home improvements aren’t just about keeping houses warm in winter. With hotter summers becoming more common, appropriate insulation, ventilation and shading can also help homes stay comfortable during periods of hot weather while reducing energy use year-round.
There will also be opportunities to find out about the support available through Frome Town Council’s Healthy Homes Team, including free energy advice from trained advisors, Home Energy Plans, home visits and practical support. Find out more at on our Healthy Homes webpage.
Participating homes will be available through a mixture of booked visits and drop-in sessions. Whether you’re just starting to think about making changes or already planning a project, the weekend offers a chance to see what could work in a home like yours.
